ARTECO’s thrust is to release to the community a fully developed citizen who would be useful to this country. This can only take place if this citizen has been taught how to be self reliant. Time and again we hire tractors for a price to do our staple maize corn field and then we hand plant with the elder children of ARTECO.

With the help of our Union Friends of ARTECO from Umeo Sweden under the Leadership of Bernt Karlsson, we this year chose to implement one of our principal “teaching them to be self reliant.” This has caused us to reduce the labour charges and has made us do more Corn (maize) field which by the grace of God is able to feed the children for the whole year, although we still have a shortfall of fertilizer in this case topdressing which should be applied by the second week of January for a better yield.

Our moment in the field makes us observe personal responsibilities that are developed as portions are given to determine performance.

This year we have done vegetable fields on our own, a sign of growth. This is without higher labour. We aim at implementing a sense of ownership. Children return from schools incase of those who are in boarding schools and in homes that volunteer to keep the children during school days for lack of transport.

The planting projects we embarked on are:

  • Cabbages, Rape, Okra, TOMATOES AND ONIONS
  • We did Poultry until we got into debts with our suppliers because we had a water problem and all the proceeds went towards the restoring our water supply.
  • MAIZE UP TO 3 HECTERERS
  • PLANTATION OF 1 HECTER OF JATROPHA TREES
  • PUMPKINS AND AFRICAN SQUASH AROUND ANT- HILLS
